Toronto CAER &
TransCAER
Responsible
CareŽ, a program pioneered by the Canadian
Chemical Producers' Association
(CCPA) and now being adopted
worldwide, is a set of initiatives that reflects a total
commitment to
making the entire chemical life cycle safer.
Two
important parts of the program are "Community Awareness and Emergency
Response" or CAER and "Transportation Community Awareness
and Emergency Response" or TransCAER. Community awareness and
the safe and proper transportation and associated handling of chemicals is
a commitment by the CCPA, its member and partner companies and each of
their employees.
CAER requires each member
company to have ongoing processes to identify and respond to community
concerns, inform the community of risks associated with company
operations, and have its own emergency plan integrated with the
community's emergency response plan.
TransCAER assists in
training the First Responders (fire, police and ambulance services along
with any other interested parties) in communities all across Canada to
ensure a safe and informed response when dealing with transportation
related chemical emergencies.
This site has been
developed to keep the public and other interested parties informed of the
ongoing activities of the Toronto CAER & TransCAER groups. It is
also intended to assist other member companies in developing plans in
their assigned communities.
